 •
The PCD (PhotoCD) files on the Corel CD-ROM should be converted to other image formats to increase their compatibility with graphics applications. Questions About Specific Uses of Corel Photos
If you have a question about using Corel Photos for a specific project or purpose other than the uses listed above please see the Corel License Agreement (CLICK HERE). The License Agreement describes exactly how you can use Corel Photos. It grants permissions and explains restrictions.

While we are resellers of Corel CD-ROMs we do not own the copyrights to the photos nor do we have any affiliation with Corel Corporation which would permit us to authorize, or comment on, use of the photos for a particular purpose. We can only refer such inquiries to the Corel License Agreement. While usage of the photos must comply with the entire Corel License Agreement, sections ''B. You May'' and ''C. You May Not'' explain in great detail how the photos may be used.

C. Some Photos Capture The 1990's Look!
Corel Photo CD-ROMs were produced by scanning 35-mm film or slides of photos at a high resolution and saving the scanned files onto CD-ROMs in the Kodak PhotoCD (PCD) format. The appearance of some photos may reveal the technical limitations of the 1990's hardware and software that was used to take the photos and produce the CD-ROMs. When compared to modern stock photography, these technical limitations may have produced photos that some consider to be imperfect. However, these photos add authenticity to projects based on themes from the 1990's because their appearance is consistent with the technology that was in use at that time. That authenticity is reinforced when the subject matter in the photo includes content related to the 1990's way of life (i.e. hairstyle, clothing, vehicle, etc).

About the Free Companion DVD-ROM of JPG & TIF FIles

A.
Companion DVD-ROM Contents & Why We Use DVD-ROM
1.
DVD-ROM Contents
Each Corel CD-ROM includes 100 Royalty-Free, High-Resolution Stock Photos in the Kodak Photo CD Format - PCD Format. The PCD format is not supported in all graphic software applications therefore the photos may need to be converted to other photo formats to be compatible with your graphics software application. As a courtesy to our customers, we convert the PCD files on the COREL CD-ROM that they purchase to the JPG and TIF file formats and ship the converted files on DVD-ROM along with their original Corel CD-ROM. The JPG & TIF files are compatible with most graphics software. The converted files are approximately 3072 pixels on the longest side of the photo and approximately 2048 pixels on the shortest side. The photos are saved at 300 Dots Per Inch (DPI).
2.
Why We Use DVD-ROMs
Due to the large file sizes of the converted JPG and TIF image files, we save them on a DVD-ROM instead of a CD-ROM. A CD-ROM would not have sufficient memory to save all of the files.

B.
Companion DVD-ROM System Requirements
Our Companion DVD-ROMs are compatible with computers running the Windows® and Macintosh® computer operating systems with a disc drive capable of reading DVD-ROMs in the DVD-R format. We have found that most DVD Drives can read DVD-ROMs in the DVD-R format. Please consult your computer's documentation regarding its ability to read DVD-ROMs in the DVD-R format to ensure compatibility. A software application (i.e. Windows Explorer) would be needed to view the contents of the DVD-ROM once it is placed into the drive. No other hardware or software is required to access the image files on the DVD-ROM. A basic image editing software application that supports JPG and TIF images (i.e. Windows Paint) can be used to open the images and perform simple edits. A more robust graphics software application that supports JPG and TIF images (i.e. Corel Draw, GIMP, Photoshop) would be needed to perform more complicated edits.
